erry J. Conrad, President and Chief Executive Officer of Merz Pharmaceuticals LLC, is a 16-year veteran of the pharmaceutical industry. He was most recently Senior Director of Business Development at the Parke-Davis division of Warner Lambert. In that position, he was responsible for leading all business development projects for the US pharmaceuticals division. Prior to his work with Warner Lambert, he also worked for Bayer AG in Germany for several years, where he was responsible for the global marketing strategy and business development efforts within the cardiovascular product development group.

From 1987 through 1995, Conrad held various marketing, sales, and business management positions in a variety of specialty areas within the domestic and international divisions of Lederle Laboratories, a division of American Cyanamid. During his time at American Cyanamid, he also served on the board of directors for the firm’s credit union as well as on a product alliance advisory board with Takeda Laboratories of Japan.

Conrad came to Merz Pharmaceuticals as president and CEO in September 2000 and holds a BS in Chemistry from St. John’s University in Minnesota, and a Master’s in Social and Administrative Pharmacy from the University of Minnesota.

Kevin M. Barth, Vice President of Sales for Merz Pharmaceuticals, LLC, joined Merz in 2001. Barth comes to Merz from the Parke-Davis division of Pfizer and brings with him over 17 years of sales, sales training, and sales leadership experience. He began his pharmaceutical career with Marion Laboratories and continued to advance through the series of mergers that evolved into Hoechst Marion Roussel (now Aventis).

Barth has worked in many areas within the pharmaceutical industry, including Internal Medicine, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Oncology, Nephrology, and Endocrinology. Prior to entering the pharmaceutical industry, he gained operations experience as a Senior Operations Manager in the retail industry.

Barth holds a BS from Southern Illinois University and an MA in International Business from Webster University.

Robert W. Burgess, Vice President of Finance and Administration for Merz Pharmaceuticals, LLC, has been with Merz and its predecessor, Mayrand Pharmaceuticals, for 12 years. Burgess joined the company as Secretary/Treasurer in 1991 and worked with Goody’s Pharmaceuticals, Mayrand’s parent company, in a joint capacity from 1992 to 1995. Prior to working for Mayrand, Burgess held positions as General Staff, Senior Staff, Manager, and Senior Manager with McGladrey & Pullen, a national public accounting firm.

Burgess is also a member of the Executive Committee of Merz Pharmaceuticals, LLC and serves as Vice President of Finance and Administration for Merz, Inc., the parent/holding company of Merz Pharmaceuticals, LLC.

Burgess holds a BS/BA with a concentration in accounting from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He obtained his CPA certification in 1984 and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the North Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants.

Bhushan Hardas, MD, MBA, Vice President of US Research & Development joined Merz Pharmaceuticals, LLC in 2004 to oversee all medical, regulatory and quality functions. Prior to joining Merz, Dr. Hardas was director of dermatology at Procyon Biopharma, Inc., a Montreal-based Canadian biotechnology company, where he led the scientific, medical and clinical activities supporting all aspects of the company's dermatology business. Earlier, Dr. Hardas also spent eight years at Derm Cosmetic Labs, advancing to the position of research and development executive director.

Dr. Hardas received advanced training in clinical immunology and molecular biology at King's College London at the University of London, in London, England. He also completed a research fellowship in the Department of Dermatology at the University of Michigan, and received his MBA in healthcare management from the University of California - Irvine.

His work in skin biology has been published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology and the Journal of Dermatology, and he has been recognized by the Dermatology Foundation, the Veteran's Administration and the National Institute of Health.

Dr. Hardas's professional affiliations include memberships in American Academy of Dermatology, Wound Healing Society, and the U.S.-based Regulatory Affairs Professional Society. He is a patron member of Society for Investigational Dermatology, a member of leaders society at Dermatology Foundation, as well as the Molecular Biology Cancer Network, and Royal Society of Medicine based in the United Kingdom.

Mary Ann Hauser, Director of Marketing for Merz Pharmaceuticals, LLC, joined Merz in 1999 as a Product Manager and has since been promoted to Group Product Manager and, most recently, Director of Marketing, overseeing the marketing of all Merz’ product lines.

Prior to joining Merz, Hauser was Group Product Manager for Bradley Pharmaceuticals. She began her career with Olin Corporation, where she spent 14 years in various sales and marketing positions, including National Account Manager in the specialty chemical group, Marketing Manager for Olin’s private label division, and Product Manager for their OEM (original equipment manufacturer) division.

Mark Stauffer, Director of Contract Manufacturing, Materials Management and Logistics for Merz Pharmaceuticals, LLC, brings to Merz over 20 years of manufacturing and materials management leadership experience. He began his manufacturing career in 1981 with Estee Lauder in metropolitan New York and comes to Merz after 13 years with ConvaTec, a division of Bristol Myers Squibb, where he was most recently the Director of Supply Chain, responsible for purchasing, planning, warehouse operations, and export market services.

Stauffer graduated from Syracuse University with a BS in Business Administration. He is a member of the American Production & Inventory Control Society and Council of Logistics and also sits on the Board of Directors for the Greensboro Chapter of the American Red Cross.
