Research and development at Merz Pharmaceuticals is fueled by our commitment to our mission:

In the pharmaceutical segment, the Global Merz R&D group focuses
on core competencies in the areas concerning the central nervous system
(CNS) and dermatology. Our growth for the most part is based on our
own research and development. The welfare of our patients is our driving
force; innovation is our objective.
As Dermatology is one of Merz’ core competencies, in the clinical area the company develops and markets medicines and cosmetics used for the treatment of fungal infections, scars, nail care, and anti-aging. In the aesthetics area, the emphasis is on an improvement of appearance through smoothing of the skin. Both areas are served by active ingredients that are developed in Germany as well as licensed from other companies.
Currently, the company has three products in development that will be submitted to FDA for approval to compete in the aesthetic medicine market. They are NT-201, a highly purified form of botulinum toxin type-A that is free of complexing proteins and intended for the treatment of facial wrinkles; Belotero®, a hyaluronic acid based dermal filler; and MDF-100, an alginate based technology intended to provide longer lasting dermal filling.
